The Lookout Deck in hout bayA nice spot, certainly took a slide down towards the harbor bed, First burger i had here was pretty good, the following two were on the wrong end of ok, it's nice to spend the day but such a shame so much of the food is as fresh as the frozen packet it came in. A nice view deserves better food.

in This review is for the Harveys bar at the winchester mansions not the restaurant, it's all a bit of a muddle as to what belongs to what or if it's all the same show. The new decor leaves you half expecting a bit of moulin rouge slap n tickle with your nuts n nibbles, slutty boudoir she has become but this a cape face lift does not make her an out and out tart, the cocktails shine bright than the chandeliers!. Even if the the place has lost its colonial charm, a few sips of a good pink drink and who's not in the mood for a bit of chaise long. Some of the golden oldies have gone from the cocktail menu, but if one of the bartenders of old is on stage then they'll fix you up whatever you can remember.

Dias Tavern in city bowlFinger lickin' good!, get your fingers stickier than the tables at dias tavern, the best peri peri sauce going, the prego roll is a flavor punch, packed with spice, wine and heavy on the musk, so much tang your table of friends as you know them will become a lions banquet, chowing and slobbering fighting for the meat. It is what it is, plastic tables, non frills presentation and when the shameless disco kicks off its a midweek swing of the bat for those looking for a booty plunder.

Shawarma Express in sea pointvery good kebabs and open all day until midnight, the doner / shawarma is middle eastern style, with strong flavours of cumin, tahini, humus, and pickled vegetables with a turkey / lamb / beef meat. excellent value, clean tidy and very tasty. do not confuse it with the kebab house next door, it doesn't compare, their kebabs are a greek effort but if the tzatziki isnt up to scratch then its never gonna work.

The Pasta Factory in gardensit is what it is, it gets one star for concept but the bolgonese calzone was excellent and very well priced. it operates like a canteen, but i'm not too sure why. on entry you are given a card to swipe your meal at any given station ie. pizza, pasta, salad, desert, the waitress brings your drinks and your food, but you must go to the counter and choose your delights ??.. seems a bit pointless to me, the waitress may aswell take your order too, the concept does nothing but machete your evening as ever now and then one of you hops off for a top up or desert while another watches the bags and phones. the setting is also a little odd, i felt like i was dining on a cruise ship, good food nonetheless. haven't tried the pasta, but the pizza is one of the better ones in town .

Fireman's Arms in city bowlThis place has gotten seriously over priced and sloppy with their food, used to be the best pie in town, my last two visits i had to fish around for the 'steak' and then do some surgery on it to hack off the lumps of gristle. Real cheap cuts!, it would'nt be so bad if it was reasonable priced but at nearly 90bux a pop in a PUB, that meat had better be from prime stock. Pizzas are now one of the most expensive in town, it's a shame, because it's one of the few places in cape town where you can go for pub grub and booze, but they are now clubbing you the same as any fancy outfit in moullie point camps bay. work it out!

Casa Nostra in sea pointPresentation isn't everything but the size must match the price if it's not a michelin star you ordered, and down this end of sea point which is fast becoming a moonscape it's best keep that in mind. The food is ok but but if it's a bargain you are offering you must stick to that premise and not try and squeeze it too hard, which is what i found to be the case here on my last visit. I think the calzone still tops the list here.

It hasn't got the best set up for tastings, the courtyard is a bit too enclosed and the other seating are overlooks the car park, but its still a great spot nonetheless. The Staff can be a bit offish, it seems to be well known for being a nice venue but which lacks the charm and finesse in service, an over spill of the franschoek bad manners epidemic perhaps. very good wines, makes a nice day out, just don't expect the red carpet.

Mitchells Waterfront Brewery in waterfrontone of the best pubs in town, always has a good crowd in there, the food is ok, only ever had a pizza which wasn't bad, don't go near the lasagne, it resembles an innovative italian shepherds version of a pie without the mash topping but a bucket of cheese dumped on some mince, pretty gross even to look at across the table. drinks are reasonably priced, look out for the odd character posing as an 'over seas student' looking for a chat, after 15 mins of banter they'll ask you to buy them a drink, not ALL obviously but has happened enough time to mention.. or maybe that's just a custom in the ivory coast.. let all go there for a drink, who's chatting n who's buying?

Pick N Pay in sea pointI’ve been wanting to take a swipe at these dirtbags for a long time, now's my chance!.. I don’t have anything against anybody who works for prik n pay, or the actual stores themselves, never had a bad customer experience with regard to politeness etc, and I’m not pointing the finger at this store in particular, it just happens to be the one I have visited the most over the past few years. so here's the problem, the prices. yeah, we all know oil went through the roof about 18 months ago and every fat cat had to take his slice of the cake, but supermarkets, and anything owned by Raymond Ackerman in particular take the piss right under our noses and we keep on handing them the money. next time you go to pick pocket n pay, check your receipt, I’m not being anal, this is a matter of robbing the poor to make a few rich sloths richer. you probably buy similar products each time you go, so the following week, compare your new receipt with that of the previous week and so on, or if you pay attention to the price on the shelf, make a mental note. now you are gonna see why this bunch of scumbags deserve a public stoning. how can the price of a product rise 25% in week, with no change in the price of oil or inflation, and up to 40% in the space of two months. if you pay attention you will see the prices are juggled, up 25% one week on say certain cereals, down 15% on the 25% mark up the next week, up another 3% the following week. the irony of it all is that Ackerman considers himself an ambassador for south Africa with regard to price fixing within the petrol industry and you can quote him on that, maybe he was, but only coz it was eating into that big fat cake in his pocket. take a stand, put the effort into shopping around, even if you have to go to other of this shiesters stores to get a good price. a loaf of bread is cheaper in woolies. when judgment day comes on why the SA public have been forced to put up with this shit for so long without any action, the rats at the top should hand over every cent in return for 6 rotten battery farm eggs, and made to make them last a life time. Come take a swipe back (not off my credit card though). ps. has anybody who works at pick n pay ie. who is not part of the rat gang that sit around the table where they keep the big cake for greedy creeps had any kind of rise in salary in line with the prices rises (after inflation and oil price movement)... mmmm??.. if you have i bet its not even a crumb of what the big fat kitty cats are thieving. stick it to em, take a month long strike, i wont complain

La Vie Cafe in sea pointnice spot to relax with a drink, but the drink prices are what you would expect in a 5 star hotel so come prepared, service is friendly, the food can be a bit hit and miss, pizzas are pretty good
