wanna be treated like a tourist, this is the place for you, i've been going here for years bearing a foreign accent, but it looks like the greed has got the better of the management. It's a VERY petty scenario but it's so pathetic it's worth publishing, coz you gotta be NUTS to be so short sighted running an establishment with a pedigree such as the chapmans peak hotel in such a way. Here goes...You buy a bag of nuts at the bar, at a tourist price of 26 bux! that's correct! cashews are now trading at an equal price to piemonte truffles. Fair enough, your accent doesn't fit the bill so it's ok to pull you pants down, we don't mind, we got cash. However, you make a genuine mistake, the person you purchased them for is allergic, so you take them back to the surly bar witch who you just tipped generously and explain as so, unopened as they were, you expect to swap them or refund them or put the cost against the next wine for which they cost the same amount. eeeerrrrmm?? .. mmmm!.. NO!, you have paid for them, nothing can be done, transactions cannot be reversed. It appears at this stage that the chapmans peak has been sold out of date technology for the cash register network. You are unsure as to whether this is plain snotty, surly or odd, so when you head to your table to have a meal you kindly point out to the manager that you will be eating dinner, and could he refund the 'diamond priced' nuts or deduct them from the bill. eeerrrrmm?? .. mmmm!.. NO!, you have paid for them, nothing can be done, transactions cannot be reversed. You reiterate, that you are about to be spending a probably 300bux on dinner, just in case they weren't sure that they were about to lose custom, to which you are replied, 'yes i know, but you have paid for them, so no'. YES its nuts, its petty, but its not on, especially at the CHAPMANS PEAK HOTEL. Sort out you staff, it seems like the rot spills down from the top, off hand managment, off hand greeting, off hand bar staff. Do you think that treating long standing paying customers in such a petulant take it or leave it manner will have them coming back to haul you butts through the long quiet winter after you have chewed up n spat out the FIFA tourists. THINK AGAIN! see you in a 3 years (maybe) ciao ciao. The price of pettiness

great summer spot to lounge and pass the afternoon, the menu is mainly seafood but they have a few meat dishes on there too, famous for their calamari, i tried their chicken, think it was a peri peri, very tasty, most dishes come served in a cast iron frying pan, shame you can't take them home after licking them clean. plenty of wines on the menu too, the place never seems to get over crowded and in winter you can kick back in the cosy bar, think they have log fires. if you are a tourist you will get surrounded by the guys selling beaded creatures from across the street, nothing to be scared of ;) .. some of their little creations are quite cute, dont be fooled by paying 150 bux for a key chain though but give them a fair deal for their work.
