Finger lickin' good!, get your fingers stickier than the tables at dias tavern, the best peri peri sauce going, the prego roll is a flavor punch, packed with spice, wine and heavy on the musk, so much tang your table of friends as you know them will become a lions banquet, chowing and slobbering fighting for the meat. It is what it is, plastic tables, non frills presentation and when the shameless disco kicks off its a midweek swing of the bat for those looking for a booty...

I am always surprised that with the number of people of indian origins who live in cape town that there are not more great indian restaurants to choose from. For a curry hound like me, I had almost written off any chance of a great night burning the pipes in the cape, every restaurant I tried served up something that looked like a curry, with the dishes on the table only distinguishable by their differing colour and varying amounts of salt. I know I am not alone in this experience, so let take captain cape take you under cover to his local curry kingdom. Head to the waterfront, top deck, to the jewel of india, the best tikka I have ever had, better than anything I have had in india or the uk, and if you got bhajis for balls (bhajis are also very good!), the best flavour on the menu is the chicken kolhapuri, I refuse to budge and try anything else, its hits a hot home run for me, and if the chili gets the better of you, it tastes even better the next day if you can handle a brave breakfast!. I am yet to try kabab mahal in sea point which I have heard is also worth a go and maharaja in hout bay, but I must confess, i am very happy and settled in my new curry house, it might take a closure to twist my arm. Ps. I cannot vouch for other dishes on the menu which I have not mentioned here, I went once, I struck gold, I never looked back, or at the menu again! posted: 30.07.2009 login /
