chenin is what was formerly the nose bar, its has a small bistro style menu, with lamb shanks, burgers, bangers and mash, and some old skool faves for desert like lemon meringue pie. they have a huge wine list and even more so since they recently held a wine tasting for a new guide there, resulting in 1000 odd bins left behind by the dry mouthed panel.. get there quick and have a root through what they have, there's only one or two bottles of each in stock so dont get the grizzles if they don't...
Whoever simon is and whatever simon has to say, i don’t care! I just hope they keep him in the kitchen and that he keeps on knocking up the dishes they dish at simons on groot constantia. Previously I had only visited jonkershuis, simons is the flip side experience, both are equally as good in their own right I would say, where jonkershuis is cozy colonial with stone fireplaces, simons is open airy full of chat and the clatter of knives and forks on china. The prices at both restaurants are extremely reasonable, service equally casual and friendly, and never mean when it comes to tending to your hunger. It is a well balanced restaurant, great food, great atmosphere and no slap in the chops when you decide cash up and roll yourself back to your wheels. To choose between simons and jonkershuis I would say depends on the occasion, either way, you wont be disappointed. Start at the gate, grab a glass and make a day of it! posted: 30.07.2009 login /
